President Obama has declared a challenge for for the nation.

A fitness challenge, which is only fitting since Obama has proclaimed May as National Physical Fitness and Sports Month.

May 1, 2009 marked the first day of the National President’s Challenge, which encourages schools, co-workers, friends and people everywhere to become physically active five days a week. The challenge allows you to track your physical activity over the next six to eight weeks and then find out which state has become the most active.

The National President’s Challenge includes:

30-60 minutes of physical activity per day

5 days a week of activity over 6-8 weeks

participants ages 6 and older

recommendations for activities plus an activity log on the President’s challenge Web site

Participating in the National President’s Challenge, Americans will also be working toward meeting the National Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans as set by the Department of Health and Human Services.

These guidelines provide residents of all ages and abilities with recommended physical activities to prevent obesity and further health concerns. More information about the Guidelines is available at: www.health.gov/paguidelines

Sign up for the National President’s Challenge today and use the GoTrybe fitness videos as part of your challenge activity time!

And remember … GoTrybe encourages everyone to: Go get active. Try something new. Be your best!

NOW, THEREFORE, I, BARACK OBAMA, President of the United States of America, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Constitution and laws of the United States, do hereby proclaim May 2009, as National Physical Fitness and Sports Month.

I call upon the American people to take control of their health and wellness by making physical activity, fitness and sports participation an important part of their daily lives. I encourage individuals, businesses, and community organizations to renew their commitment to personal fitness and health by celebrating this month with appropriate events and activities.
