What are nutrient-dense foods? They’re foods that provide the nutrients you need while providing fewer calories than alternative foods. For example, fat-free milk and whole milk contain the same amount of nutrients, such as calcium, but whole milk is much higher in calories and fat. Fat-free or low-fat milk is much more nutrient-dense than whole milk. To learn more about how you and your family can make more nutrient-dense food choices visit mypyramid.gov.
